Ijah Finishes Eighth at USATF Outdoor National Championships

Eagle places in the top half amongst the best decathletes in the United States
EUGENE, Ore. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field standout Solomon Ijah (Murrieta, Calif.-Murrieta Valley) returned to Hayward Field for the first two days of the USATF Outdoor Adult National Championships, June 25-26. The redshirt-senior finished eighth in the decathlon with 7,466 points.
Ijah sat in seventh after the first day of competition with 3,906 points. He saw his greatest success in the 100m and the shot put, finishing fourth overall in both events with a time of 10.80 seconds in the sprint portion of the decathlon and a toss of 14.64 meters/48 feet .50-inches. He also finished seventh in the 400m dash in 50.37 seconds, 11th in the long jump with a leap of 6.79 meters/22 feet 3.50-inches, and 12th in the high jump after clearing 1.85 meters/6 feet 0.75-inches.
The second day of competition was a more successful one for Ijah, with three top-six finishes. He placed fourth in the javelin throw with a launch of 58.32 meters/191 feet 4-inches and fifth in the 110m hurdles in 14.70 seconds, while his discus throw mark of 40.71 meters/133 feet 6-inches was good for sixth overall. The Murrieta, Calif. native took 13th in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.15 meters/13 feet 7.25-inches, and finished up his day with a seventh-place finish in the 1500m in 4:49.23. The overall title was won by Nike's Trey Hardee, who dominated the field with 8.725 points.
The USATF Outdoor National Championships are not over for Eastern just yet, as three-time All-American Donald Scott is set to compete for a spot on the national team in the triple jump. He will go up against the nation's best athletes Sunday, June 28, at 12:10 p.m. PT.
