EMU in Fourth-Place Heading Into Final Day of MAC Championships

Four of the five Eagles are within the tournament's top 25 spots

CHARDON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team will need to rally in a big way Sunday in order to recapture the Mid-American Conference title on the par 72, 7,245 yard Mayfield Sand Ridge Club – Sand Ridge course. Miami University owns an eight-stroke lead over the field after Saturday's third round of the 2015 MAC Championship.

Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's squad entered the day in second-place, and left the course following Saturday's round in the fourth position. The Eagles carded a third round 300 for a two-day cumulative score of 884 (290-294-300). Seeking its first MAC title since 1996 Miami University continued its scorching play with a six-over 294 for an 870 (287-289-294) and the advantage heading into Sunday's final 18 holes.

The RedHawks will be joined by the University of Toledo (296-293-289=878) and Ball State University (298-287-296=881) in the final five threesomes of Sunday's round. Rounding out the field in order are EMU in fourth, Kent State (302-295-293=890) in fifth, Northern Illinois (304-300-290=894) and Bowling Green (291-311-292=894) tied in sixth, Ohio (307-289-302=898) in eighth and Akron (304-302-300=906) ninth.

Individually, BSU's McCormick Clouser still holds the lead with a five-under 211 (70-70-71) followed by teammate  Johnny Watts in second place at 214 (76-71-67).

Four Eagles are ranked in the top 25, including senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) who is in 10th-place at 219 (72-74-73). Junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) is in 11th-place with a 220 (73+71+76).  Freshman Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) is tied for 13th with a 222 (71-74-77) while sophomore Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) carded a 226 (76-75-75) for 24th-place. Rounding out the EMU lineup, junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) fired a round of 76 for a 228 (74-78-76) in a 31st-place tie.

The fourth and final round of the 2015 MAC Men's Golf Championship will get underway at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 3. Following competition, MAC Golfer, Freshman, Coach and Sportsmen of the Year, First and Second Team All-MAC and the All-Tournament team will be announced.
