Rowing Earns Program-Best Finishes at CAA Championships

MERCER COUNTY, N.J. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing posted a program's best finish at the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships at Mercer Lake Sunday, May 17.
Northeastern University claimed its fifth championship, matching its point total from last year with 36, while Drexel placed second with 30 points and Buffalo rounded out the top three with 22 points. The Eagles notched a program-best 17 points on the afternoon for a fourth-place finish, while Delaware rounded out the championship with 15 points and a fifth-place finish.
The Varsity Four squad became the first-ever EMU boat to place in the top three at the CAA Championships with a third-place finish. The Green and White crossed the line in 7:44.54, while Northeastern took its first title of the afternoon, finishing in 7:34.28.
Eastern grabbed a fourth-place finish in the Varsity Eight race, crossing the finish line in 6:51.36, which marked the third-fastest time of the season for the Eagles. In its final race of the day, the Green and White finished fifth in the Second Varsity Eight with a time of 7:21.96.
"This was a fitting end to the season, having the first boat in EMU history to place in the conference and the team finishing higher than ever," stated Head Coach Kemp Savage. "It has been a breakout season and it is time to get to work for next year."
EMU placed two rowers on the All-CAA team for the first time in program history with Krista Burdick garnering the honor for the second time in her career and Emily Kent earning the accolade for the first time. Finally, Steph Schlosser was named to the CAA All-Academic team for the second-straight season.
