The Eagles return home for their final three games of the season against Toledo, May 14-16

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Playing its fifth game in as many days, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped a 17-2 decision to the University of Michigan Tuesday evening, May 12, at Ray Fisher Stadium inside the Wilpon Complex.  The Wolverines (32-21) jumped on the Eagles early and never looked back to claim the season series victory between the two Washtenaw County rivals.

The Eagles (19-33) managed just five hits in the contest.  David Lett recorded his ninth multiple game of the season in the effort and his second straight in which he has recorded two hits.  John Rubino also recorded a pair of hits in the contest and two RBI.  Rubino's sixth inning single extended the senior's reached base streak to 27 consecutive games.  Junior Jordan Peterson had the other base knock for the Green and White.  Carmen Benedetti led the Wolverines offense with four hits, three runs, and three RBI.

Freshman Brent Mattson was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Green and White in his fifth start of the season.  Mattson (1-3) allowed nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits in just 1.2 innings pitched.  Freshman Kyle Huckaby was solid out of the bullpen for the Eagles, tossing a hitless 3.1 innings while striking out three.  Donnie Eaton (3-0) was credited with the victory in relief for the Wolverines, pitching a scoreless two innings with three strikeouts.

U-M jumped on the board early as the Wolverines plated three runs in the first inning before adding six more in the bottom of the second to take a 9-0 advantage after two innings.

Following a scoreless third, Michigan's offense continued to click and put runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth.  The Wolverines tacked on seven runs on just three hits, but took advantage of six Eagle walks and two errors to open a 17-0 lead.

The Green and White got on the board in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs on a Rubino two-run single through the right side.  Austin Wilson and Lett came around to score on the hit after reaching base on an error and infield single earlier in the frame.

Neither team would score any more runs in the final two innings as the Wolverines closed out the 17-2 victory and claimed two-out-of-three games against the Eagles this season.

Eastern Michigan returns to the diamond Thursday, May 14, as the Eagles open up their final Mid-American Conference series of the season against the University of Toledo.  First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. against the Rockets at Oestrike Stadium and can be heard live on the airwaves of Eagle All-Access.
