Baseball Lands 11 on Academic All-MAC List

Total is the most by the Eagles since the 2021 season
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2026 Baseball Academic All-MAC Team Tuesday, June 9, recognizing a total of 11 Eastern Michigan University student-athletes. Overall, 114 student-athletes were honored for their outstanding achievements in both athletics and academics.
Earning the award for the Eagles this season is Ethan Davis (Brownstown, Ind./Brownstown Central/Frontier C.C.), Emmett Gillies (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley/Akron), John Hale (Ashland City, Tenn./Sycamore/Motlow State C.C.), Fischer Hendershot (Flushing, Mich./Flint Powers), Bruce Jellison (Hartland, Mich./Hartland/Wabash Valley), Drew Jones (Cleveland, Ohio/Brush/Ohio State), Michael Pfeiffer (Brownsboro, Ala./Huntsville/Northwest-Shoals C.C.), Cal Rutherford (Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central), Ben Schechterman (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora/Ohio State), Ty Stecko (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin/Mount St. Mary's), and Devan Zirwas (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny/VCU).
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and any transfer in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
All 11 student-athletes earned the award for the first time in their respective careers. The 11 honorees are the program's most since it landed 12 on the list following the 2021 season, July 7. In other academic accolades, Hale and Jellison were recently named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, June 2.
Western Michigan led the conference with 15 student-athletes earning a spot on the team. Kent State followed with 13 honorees, while Eastern and Ball State each posted 11 representatives.
As a team, Eastern is up to 156 total Academic All-MAC honors and has seen 101 different student-athletes earn the distinction. Additionally, the program led all EMU men's teams in the winter semester, posting a 3.481 GPA as it holds a 3.545 cumulative GPA, the highest of any EMU men's program.
As a department, all Eastern Athletics programs have a cumulative GPA over 3.00 as the Eagles set a cumulative GPA record for the seventh-consecutive term with a 3.517 in the 2026 winter semester.
