Rowing Notches Five Victories On Day One of Lubbers Cup

The Varsity Eight swept its races for the Green and White
SPRING LAKE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team saw big scores on the water at the 20th Annual Don Lubbers Cup with the Varsity 8+ sweeping its races and the Novice team earning a first-place finish Saturday, April 11.
"This has been a great start to the weekend," stated Head Coach Kemp Savage. "The crews are finally generating the speed they are capable of. We will be carrying this momentum into racing tomorrow."
The Eagles first victory of the afternoon came when the Varsity 8+ squad nabbed an eight second victory over the University of Cincinnati, crossing the line at 6:47.40.
In the Novice's first race of the afternoon, the team placed second behind host Grand Valley State in a time of 7:36.20, but the team quickly recovered when the open four team notched a victory in a time of 7:34.20 over Cincinnati's A and B squads.
The Novice eight team garnered a win over both Illinois and Cincinnati, finishing in 7:19.60, while the Green and White closed out the afternoon with two final victories, one in the open four division and a second win for the Varsity 8 team.
The Eagles will conclude the Lubbers Cup Sunday, April 12.
