McGuire has been assistant coach and recruiting coordinator the last four seasons

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Delaney McGuire has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the Eastern Michigan University rowing program, as announced by Head Coach Kemp Savage Friday, Aug. 1.

"I want to thank Kemp, Gretchen Fox, and Scott Wetherbee for their unwavering support of me throughout my career at EMU," McGuire said. "It is an honor to be promoted at such a pivotal time for our program. Our student-athletes are the why behind what I do every day, and our team is second to none. I am excited to continue our pursuit of excellence both on and off the water as we join the MAC this year."

McGuire has been at EMU since June 2021 serving as the team's recruiting coordinator and working heavily with the 2V8+. She also spent time on Savage's staff previously, serving as a graduate assistant from 2016-18 before being elevated to an assistant coach for the 2018-19 academic year.

As the recruiting coordinator, McGuire and staff brought in their largest recruiting class ever ahead of the 2025-26 academic year.

"Delaney has been instrumental in making EMU into the program it is today," Savage said. "Through a full restructuring of recruiting, executing our athlete development plan, and monitoring our academic success, she has helped steer Eastern into the path we need for success. With the expansion of rowing at EMU into the lightweight arena, her responsibility will increase in the open-weight program and it is well-deserved for her promotion to Associate Head Coach. I am looking forward to seeing more of her vision for how we can execute the next step in Eastern Rowing."

While leading the 2V8+, McGuire has helped Eastern achieve dual race wins over Dayton, Duquesne, and Villanova, in addition to bronze showing for EMU at the 2025 Ford Lake Cup in 6:59.9. The 2V8+'s 7:00.08 effort at the 2022 CAA Championships to help the Eagles take third in the conference.

Along with her role at EMU, McGuire coached with USRowing at the Selection Development camp in 2025, which saw the Americans come away with two wins at the inaugural International Rowing Challenge in the mixed 8+ and Men's 4+.

In her first stint in Ypsilanti, McGuire guided the Novice 8+ to claim the Sara Vaughn Trophy at the Dad Vail Championship in 2019, as well as helping push the Eagles to a third-place finish in the 2019 CAA Championships.

Prior to getting into coaching, McGuire was a four-year letterwinner at Saint Joseph's University from 2012-16, earning Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team accolades as a senior. Also the recipient of the team's Vasquez Award, McGuire graduated with a degree in art education before returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach from 2019-21.

While coaching at SJU, McGuire coached the Hawks' 2V8+ to bronze medals at the 2021 Dad Vail Championship, in addition to the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship.

McGuire continued her rowing career while coaching at EMU as she earned a spot on the United States rowing team that competed in the 2018 World University Championships in Shanghai, China, and finished 11th in the Lightweight Double Sculls.

Eastern Michigan, which has been a leader in advancement of women's rowing, announced the addition of lightweight rowing ahead of the 2026-27 academic year.
