KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) ---
The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team placed fourth at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championships, notching a 195.075 under first year Head Coach Jay Santos. The team score marks not only the highest finish at the MAC Championships since the 2010 season when the Green and White placed third, but it is also the highest team score since the 2004 campaign at the conference championships.

In his first year as head coach of the Eagles, Santos led the Green and White to a 13-5 overall record en route to breaking the EMU school record with a 195.575, Feb. 20. EMU also broke the 195-point barrier on seven different occasions this season, earning Santos Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year accolades.

Kent State captured the MAC Championship title as it tallied 196.375 points while Central Michigan, the regular season champions, was runner-up with a 196.275. Western Michigan placed third with 195.525, followed by Eastern Michigan in fourth with 195.075, Bowling Green in fifth with 193.575, and Ball State and Northern Illinois tied for sixth with 193.200 points.

"Today's performance was a little off and wasn't our best and what we are capable of doing at this point, noted Santos. "We had a tough rotation by starting the meet on beam and we came out a little tight.  We rebounded well on floor and vault but we couldn't quite finish the meet and had a mistake on bars to put us fourth."

"Even though we were looking for a stronger performance at MAC's; I'm extremely proud of everything this team has been able to accomplish this year," stated Santos. "Their hardwork, sacrifice and dedication has shown in our performances throughout the whole season.  This is now a team with high expectations and I'm honored to be their coach and very excited for the future of this program!"

The Eagles finished fourth overall on both the beam and the floor with team scores of 48.625 and 48.900, respectively before having a bye in the third overall rotation. Moving to the vault, the Green and White finished fifth with a 48.875 and capped off the meet with fifth-place finish on the bars, scoring a 48.675.

Competing in the all-around competition in their final MAC Championships, senior Carrina Lo Bello finished third overall with a 38.925 and senior Anna Willette finished just behind Lo Bello with a 38.725.

In their first rotation of the championships, the Eagles posted a team score of 48.650 on the beam with Lacey Rubin posting a team-best 9.800 for a seventh-place overall finish, while Willette nabbed a 9.775 on the apparatus, placing 13th for the Green and White. Sophomore Natalie Gervais scored a 9.750 on the beam for EMU to place 14th overall, while Catie Conrad and Lo Bello earned a 9.650 in the first event.

Moving to the floor for its second rotation, the Green and White saw big performances from redshirt-senior Chantelle Loehner and freshman Rachel Slocum as they led the Eagles with matching 9.850s to tie for seventh. Following the top performances, Taylor Young matched her career-high with a 9.775 and Sydney McEachern secured a 9.750 in the event. As a team, Eastern earned a 48.900 before having a bye moving into the overall third rotation, which would prove to be the Eagles' highest team mark of the afternoon.

For the second-straight week, freshman Kendall Valentin led the Eagles on the vault, earning a team-best 9.825 to place eighth overall and both Lo Bello and Willette nabbed 9.800s to place 14th for the Green and White on the apparatus. Following the 14th-place finish for Lo Bello and Willette, McEachern and Paulina Miller posted identical 9.725s to round out the EMU scoring.
