White's Hole-In-One Leads EMU at Talis Park Challenge

NAPLES, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) -- On the strength of a hole-in-one on the par 3, 156-yard 13th hole during the opening round, junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) leads the Eagles in a tie for 21st-place with a two-round total of 143 (69-74) at the Talis Park Challenge Sunday, March 15. The hole-in-one is the second for White during his EMU career, as he also accomplished the feat in the final round of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championship in Carmel, Ind., May 4.

Overall, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team is tied for seventh place at 579 (289-290) on the par 71, 6,893-yard Talis Park Golf Club course. The final round is set to start at 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 16.

Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) is tied for 25th, after shooting a 144 (74-70) while sophomore Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) is tied for 42nd with a 147 (76-71). Freshman Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) shot a 73 and a 75 to tie for 47th at 148. Also in the lineup for EMU, junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) is tied for 51st with a 149 (73-76).

No. 5 Vanderbilt sits atop the leaderboard after Sunday's opening two rounds. The defending champion Commodores own a 36-hole score of 560 (-8) and hold a two-shot lead over fellow Southeastern Conference squad LSU, the nation's 13th-ranked team.

Three players are tied for the individual lead at seven-under par 135 -- Adria Arnaus of Texas A&M, Otto Black of Toledo and Jake Sherwin of Florida Gulf Coast.
