Chan Qualifies to NCAA Championships in 3-meter Dive

Sophomore earns bid to national championship
COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's diving team will have one member of the squad compete at the NCAA Championships, March 26-28 in Iowa City, Iowa, as Alex Chan (Toronto, Ontario-Neil McNeil Catholic) finished eighth on the 3-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, March 13.
Chan was one of two Eagles to qualify to the finals after scoring 342.95 points in the prelims, joined by Dan Gironza (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon). Chan went on to collect 729.75 points in the finals round, finishing eighth and punching his ticket to Iowa City at the end of the month. Gironza finished 12th overall with 671.45 points. In the prelims, Sage Stephens (Warren, Ill.-Warren) took 22nd with 294.30 points, Peter Rusenas (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) claimed 26th with 275.10 points, and Dakoda Johnson (Greenwood, Ind.-Center Grove) scored 268.15 points to finish 27th.
Chan will be joined by one more Eagle at the NCAA Championships, as Mike Fisher (Saline, Mich.-Saline) earned a bid after breaking the EMU and Mid-American Conference record for the 200 breast in 1:54.97. Fisher will also compete in the 100 breast after notching an NCAA consideration mark of 54.22 seconds.
