EMU won three singles matches but came up just shy
LINCOLN, Neb. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University's women's tennis team dropped its second-straight dual match Saturday, Feb. 7, when the Eagles (1-4) dropped a 4-3 decision to Drake University at the University of Nebraska.
The Eagles dropped the doubles point after the duo of Ani Gogvadze and Maria Paula Ribero, along with the No. 3-doubles team of Daphne Friedrichs and Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna each dropped 6-3 decisions. At No. 1-doubles, Klara Supejova and Andrea Martinovska had their match suspended at the score of 4-4.
With a 1-0 lead, Drake took the No. 4-6-doubles matches. Supejova defeated Drake's Mariel Ante, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, at No. 1, while Gogvadze continued her winning ways, knocking off Summer Brills, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Martinovska defeated DU's Tess Herder at No. 3-singles, 6-3, 7-5, giving EMU their third point, but the Green and White was unable to hold the Bulldogs, falling 4-3.
"We played with a much better level of intensity today," remarked Head Coach Ryan Ray. "Drake is a strong team, and I saw much better things than our previous losses. Despite the loss, this was a step forward."
