Klara Supejova was the only Eagle to come away with a victory

LINCOLN, Neb. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at the hands of the University of Nebraska on Sunday, Feb. 8. The Eagles (1-5) won just one singles match in the loss to the Cornhuskers.

Eastern was swept in doubles play, 3-0. The No. 3-doubles duo of Daphne Friedrichs and Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna was closest to winning their contest, falling 7-6. At No. 1, Klara Supejova and Andrea Martinovska did not have the same success, dropping a 6-3 match, while Ani Gogvadze and Maria Paula Ribero fell by the same tally.

In singles play, Supejova was the only Eagle on the left side of the ledger, defeating Nebraska's Maggie Lehmicke, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. EMU was swept in the remainder of the singles contests, with Renu Sharma as the only member of the squad taking her match to three sets, before falling, 6-3, 0-6, 1-0, at No. 6.

"We just didn't close out enough close sets, some with decent leads, to have a shot at victory today," stated Head Coach Ryan Ray. "Our level of play is decent, but a lot of specifics need to improve. I think the level of intensity hit another level this week, and it needs to keep progressing."

Eastern returns to the court for a Saturday, Feb. 14, Valentine's Day dual match with the University of Pittsburgh. The Eagles and Panthers are scheduled to get the match underway at 5 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pa.
