YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Three weeks after suffering their first loss of the season, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming & diving team will return to Jones Natatorium for the EMU Invitational. As host of the invite, the Eagles will compete against Tiffin, Wayne State, and Ashland.

EAGLES RECOGNIZED FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE:  Amid a strong start to the 2015-16 season where the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team has found themselves on the podium often, the Eagles were recognized for their efforts away from the pool, Monday, Nov. 23. The College Swimming Coach Association of America announced the Green and White were one of 110 programs to post a perfect 100 Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
Eastern Michigan was one of four Mid-American Conference schools to be recognized for academic excellence with perfect GSR's, joining Bowling Green, Buffalo, and Ohio. Additionally, EMU is one of 71 women's team's to hold a 100 GSR nationally.

EMU INVITATIONAL SUCCESS:  Over the past decade, the Eagles have not finished lower than second at the EMU Invitational. Finishing runner up for seven consecutive seasons, the Green and White broke through with a first place finish during the 2012-13 season. Since claiming the top spot, the Eagles placed second the following year before returning to the top of the podium last season.

I'LL HAVE ANOTHER:  Junior swimmer Grace Van Allen reeled in her second Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honor in as many weeks for her efforts in the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team's bout with Ohio State, Nov. 14. Van Allen turned in a trio of top-three finishes against the Buckeyes, including two first place finishes.
The award marks the second time in her career Van Allen has garnered the honor while it is the third time this season an Eagle has been recognized as the conference's best performer. Earning the award in back-to-back weeks, Van Allen is the first Eagle to achieve the feat since the 2010-11 season.

RANKS OF THE GREEN AND WHITE: A setback at the hands of Ohio State did not stop the Eagles from posting some of the best times the Mid-American Conference has seen this season. Despite the outcome on the scoreboard, the Eagles swam their best relays of the season against the Buckeyes and now hold the top times in the conference. Touching in with a time of 3:28.46 in the 400 Free Relay, junior Sierra Wagner, senior  Mary Kate MacLean, freshman Dora Vrcic, and junior Grace Van Allen bested the conference by nearly two seconds. In the 200 Medley Relay, junior Alexis Mitcheltree and freshman Delaney Duncan teamed up with Vrcic and MacLean. Together, the foursome finished in 1:43.53, besting Akron's previous conference top time of 1:43.76 set, Oct. 23. Eastern Michigan's dual with Ohio State also saw junior Carly Jackson post the conference's second-best time in the 200 Butterfly. Jackson's time of 2:03.47 was one hundreth of a second shy of the top time, set by Bowling Green's Jordan Bullock the day before.
In addition to the success the Eagles put together against Ohio State, the Green and White currently hold five of the top times in the MAC while adding three second ranked times and three third ranked times this season. Freshman Nicole Swartz holds the top times in both the 500 and 1000 Free while Mitcheltree adds a top time in the 100 Backstroke.

SOPHOMORES STRONG ON THE SPRINGBOARD:  Sophomores Becky Deacon, Emily Tubbs, Alli Shereda, Molly Miller, and Mattie Boucha make up Eastern Michigan's young and talented diving team. Facing their toughest competition to date, Deacon went toe-to-toe with a telented and experienced Ohio State squad, finishing third in the 1-meter event.
Prior to EMU's meeting with OSU, Deacon won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against Oakland, Saturday, Nov. 7, scoring 253.43 and 252.28, respectively. Meanwhile, teammates Boucha, Tubbs and Shereda added top-three scores as the Eagles were awarded 28-of-32 points in the diving portion of the dual.

CLOSING IN ON 250:  Head Coach Peter Linn's 27-year tenure at Eastern Michigan has guided the Eagles to a number of successes over the years. Following EMU's sweep of Oakland, Linn's career record on the women's side sits at 61-36 while he owns a 185-57 at helm for the men. Additionally, the win moves Linn's total coaching record to 246-93,  good for a .726 winning percentage. With plenty of opportunities on the schedule for each of Linn's teams, he could reach the 250 win mark this season.
