Beck Finishes in Tie for Second at LR Women's Golf Classic

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. (EMUEagles.com) – Entering the final round of play in seventh place, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team catapulted to a tie for fourth place at the Little Rock Golf Classic behind a pair of top-10 finishes. Collectively, the Eagles shot a third-round 292, Tuesday, Nov. 3, tying the second lowest team score of the weekend.
Heading into the day in sole possession of fifth place, sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) shot par, moving her into a tie for second with three-day mark of 216. Beck finished in a two-way tie with Little Rock's Stina Resen and two shots behind Central Arkansas' Emma Svensson's eight-under, 208. Her scorecard is the best three-day score of her career, coming in six strokes lower than her previous career-best, 222.
Junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) continued her climb up the standings, carding a team-best 70 on the final day of play. Shooting two-under par, Murphy turned in the best score of the day. Beginning the day in a tie for 20th, Murphy's impressive round put her inside the top-ten, in a four-way tie for eighth place.
Missouri State overtook the lead on the final day, shooting 287 on day three to edge out Central Arkansas by three strokes. Central Arkansas turned in a combined score of 890, while Little Rock's 896 rounded out the top three. The Green and White finished with three-day total, 900, tying for fourth with Houston Baptist.
Redshirt senior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) shaved six strokes off her second round score, moving her into a tie for 44th place with freshman Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School). Redshirt senior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) rounded out the scores for the Eagles, finishing just inside the top-50.
The Little Rock Women's Golf Classic closes out the fall portion of the Eagles schedule. Eastern Michigan returns to the links, Feb. 8-9, in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. for Mid-American Conference Match Play.
