Eagles tie for third in the Mid-American Conference with six selections

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team landed six harriers on the 2015 Mid-American Conference Men's Cross Country  Academic All-MAC Team, the conference announced, Tuesday, Nov. 24. Eastern ranked third in the conference with six selections.

The Eagles' selections for the team include: Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge), Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven), Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee), Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis. - River Falls), Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. - Mason), and Cameron Trinh (Oakland, Calif. - Skyline). This marks the third time that Fink has earned the honor, while it is the second for Lenneman and Raymond. Andresson, Bouchikhi, and Trinh all earned Academic All-MAC honors for the first time in their careers.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for  student-athletes who have excelled both in athletics and academics. In order to qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. Freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.

Raymond had a very successful season for the Eagles, as he took home the Mid-American Conference individual title at the MAC Championships, Oct. 31, as well as placing eighth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Nov. 13. He also earned First Team All-MAC and All-Region honors. Raymond was selected as an at-large individual to the NCAA Championships as well, marking the first time that the Green and White have sent an individual to the National Championship since 2007.

Senior Willy Fink ended his career at Eastern with a slew of top finishes as well. At the conference championship, he finished runner-up, in addition to taking 12th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Like Raymond, he also earned First Team All-MAC and All-Region honors. Trinh's Eagle career came to a close as well, as the Oakland, Calif. native ran in five races throughout the season. His top performance came at the Detroit Titan invitational, Sept. 12, where he took third.

Redshirt sophomores Andresson and Lenneman both ran in four races during the 2015 campaign. Andresson turned in a ninth-place finish at the MAC Championships, earning Second Team All-MAC honors in the process. Like Andresson, Lenneman also earned Second Team All-MAC honors, as he finsihed 13th at the conference championship. Finally, sophomore Lahsene Bouchikhi rounded out the Eagles with First Team All-MAC honors after finishing sixth at the conference championship.

Despite the team not earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, the Eagles turned in another banner year, as they took home the MAC title for the sixth consecutive season.
