AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University freshman Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) fired back-to-back rounds of 70 to sit in a tie for fourth after the opening day of the The Firestone Invitational. Playing as an individual, the Howell, Mich. native posted the first under-par rounds of his career and is just four strokes off the lead held by Maryland's David Kocher.
As a team, the Eagles carded an opening day score of 587 (295-292) while the Terrapins holds down the top spot with a 36-hole tally of 569 (284-285) on the par 72, 7,225-yard Firestone Country Club-North Course.
Junior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) finished the day in a tie for 20th-place at 144 (70-74). Sophomore Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) and junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) are just shot back in 29th with a 145. Rounding out the lineup, redshirt sophomore Nick Park (Howell, Mich.-Howell-Oakland) and junior Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) posted a 154 and a 157, respectively.
Eastern Michigan will complete play at the Firestone Intercollegiate with one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
