EMU Volleyball Drops a Four Setter at Miami

The Redhawks' offense overpowers at Millett Hall
OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team hit the road following a four-match homestand Friday, Oct. 16, by heading to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami University at Millett Hall. The Eagles (11-9, 3-4 MAC) dropped a four set decision to the Redhawks (14-7, 6-2 MAC), 15-25, 22-25, 25-17, 20-25.
Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill.-Minooka Community) and Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary's Catholic Central) led the Eastern offense with 10 kills each, while Katie Krasowski (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Marist) added eight and Kelsey Jones (Reed City, Mich.-Reed City) recorded seven. Mallory Rajewski (Midland, Mich.-Midland) setup the EMU offense, posting 26 assists while tying her career-best with five kills. Defensively, Rajewski added 11 digs, while Corynne Smith (Norwalk, Ohio-St. Paul) led the match with 19 and Perinar picked up 16.
The Eagles dropped the opening set, 25-15, after hitting at a -.088 percentage. Haut and Perinar each posted three kills apiece, but the Redhawks' offense hit at a stout, .357 attack percentage, posting just one error in 28 attempts. In addition, Miami had seven blocks in the first set alone.
MU continued to hit at a high percentage in the second set, posting a .325 percentage, with Paige Hill leading the way, knocking home six of her seven attack attempts. In total, the Redhawks posted 17 kills, while Eastern managed just 11. Haut led the Eagles with four kills and a .500 attack percentage in the 25-22 frame setback.
The Eagles posted their best offensive set when they hit .231 in a 25-17 third set victory. Jones led the way, hitting .714 on 5-of-7 attacks. Defensively, Smith grabbed six of her digs in the set, while Eastern held the Redhawks to a .044 attack percentage in the set.
Moving on to the fourth and final set, EMU fell, 25-20. The Redhawks continued to compete at a high level offensively, hitting .225 with 16 kills. Krasowski notched three kills, while Haut and Rajewski each recorded two. Perinar had five digs in the final frame of the match as the Eagles hit just .114.
Eastern heads to Bowling Green State University Saturday night, Oct. 17. The Eagles and Falcons will square off at 7 p.m. from the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio. Eastern's senior outside hitter Stacey Perinar is looking to reach a major milestone in her career as the Channahon, Ill. native is just six kills shy of the 1,000 career kill mark.
