YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team will head north to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. to tussle with the Chippewas of Mid-American Conference opponent Central Michigan University in a dual meet Friday, Jan. 30.

Later that evening, one Eagle has been invited to take part in the ninth annual Elite Throws Competition at the Findlay Open in Findlay, Ohio.  Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio-Sandusky) has been having an exceptional campaign in the weight throw, having broken the EMU school record in two of his three meets in 2015.  The junior will join some of the premier throwers in the nation, as three of the top-10 collegiate throwers in the NCAA will be present, as well as highly-decorated veteran thrower, A.G. Kruger.  Kruger is an eight-time U.S. indoor weight throw champion as well as a five-time champion in the hammer throw during the outdoor season, and has appeared in three Olympic Games.

The Eagles, who are ranked No. 36 in the nation according the the first U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) release of 2015, are coming off a strong effort at the Notre Dame Invitational, Jan. 24, which the team won with 120 points over No. 25 Michigan State, Indiana State, No. 20 Purdue, No. 31 Notre Dame, and  DePaul.  In addition to Jones breaking his own record in the weight throw, Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) moved up in the record books in the 400m, recording the second-fastest time in EMU history for the victory in 46.26 seconds and the second-best time in the nation for 2015.  Brown was honored by the conference as the MAC Track Athlete of the Week, Jan. 27.

The Green and White continued to put in strong marks, such as Donald Scott (Apopka, Fla.-Apopka) getting wins in the long jump and triple jump and big personal records from Harry Dixon (Nelson, New Zealand-Nayland College) in the 3000m and Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio-Maumee) in the mile to finish first and second in their respective events.

The dual with CMU will start at 3 p.m. inside the Jack Skoog Indoor Track and Field Complex, with the women's meet following at 5:30 p.m.  In the evening, the Elite Throws Competition is slated for a 7:45 p.m. start at the Malcolm Athletic Center.
