Men's track and field takes on competitive field in scored event
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team will test its talent this weekend, taking on the six-team field at the Notre Dame Invitational Saturday, Jan. 24, in South Bend, Ind. The Eagles have seen success during their two weeks of competition, but will have to step up the intensity against DePaul, Indiana State, Michigan State, host Notre Dame, and Purdue.
Though the regional and national rankings have not come out from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), all six of the teams were listed on the final poll for the 2013-14 season. Notre Dame had the highest ranking at No. 12, followed by then-No. 21 Purdue, then-No.22 Michigan State, then-No. 48 Indiana State, and then-No. 81 DePaul. Eastern Michigan ranked in at No. 60 at the close of the 2013-14 season.
The meet will begin on the field, with a large group of athletes competing in the horizontal jumps at 9 a.m. Track events are slated to begin at noon, starting with the trial heats for the 60m hurdles. Women's events will be contested on the track first, followed by the men.
