ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
—Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team completed its second meet of the young 2015 campaign, turning in strong performances at the Harvey Invitational, Jan. 17.  The Green and White saw a slightly different look than its turnout at the EMU Quadrangular last weekend, as more of the squad saw action in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Eastern garnered five victories throughout the day as well as an additional 10 top-four performances.  On the field, the Eagles saw wins from Aaron Dewberry (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Portage Northern) and Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio-Sandusky).  Dewberry took home a first-place finish in the long jump, leaping 6.57 meters/21 feet 6.75-inches to win the event by nearly a foot.  Finishing third was James O'Shea (Toledo, Ohio-St. Johns Jesuit) with a personal record of 6.28 meters/20 feet 7.25-inches.  O'Shea also competed in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters/6 feet 4-inches for six.

In the weight throw, the newly crowned EMU record holder Jones buried the competition with a launch of 19.83 meters/65 feet 00.75-inches.  Jones won the event by over four and a half feet, while teammate Andrew Wentz (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon) garnered a top-10 finish with a throw of 14.67 meters/48 feet 1.75-inches.

A pair of runner-up placements came to the Eagles in the pole vault and triple jump.  Dylan Stites (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake) took second-highest honors with a vault of 4.75 meters15 feet 7-inches, recording his second consecutive personal best of the season.  Freshman Brett Lara (Chesterton, Ind.-Chesterton) also improved on his mark from a week ago, jumping 4.45 meters/14 feet 7.25-inches for sixth.  In the triple jump, Chris Fischre (East Lansing, Mich.-East Lansing) claimed second place with a leap of 12.68 meters/41 feet 7.25-inches, and Wayne Blanchard (Toledo, Ohio-St. Francis de Sales) notched a career record at 12.03 meters/39 feet 5.75-inches, good for third.

Blanchard had another career performance on the track, qualifying for the finals of the 60m in 6.92 seconds and further improved his mark to 6.90 seconds for fifth.  He was paced by Cameron Bolton (Missouri City, Texas-Hightower) in the fourth-place spot in 6.88 seconds.  The Eagles took up four of the eight lanes in the final heat, as Blanchard and Bolden were joined by Kevin Snead (Richmond, Va.-George Wythe (Pima CC)) and Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay).  Snead took sixth in 6.92 seconds, qualifying for the finals in 6.91 seconds, while Brown took seventh in 6.95 seconds.  Brown additionally won the 200m as the only athlete to dip below the 22-second barrier, crossing the line in 21.88 seconds.

The Eagles were also well-represented in the final heat of the 60m hurdles, once again qualifying four athletes.  Solomon Ijah (Murrieta, Calif.-Murrieta Valley) finished third in 8.23 seconds, edging out Bryce Lindsey (New Middletown, Ohio-Fairfield Senior) by one hundredth of a second.  Freshman Mark Cooke (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens) swept in for fifth in a personal-best 8.39 seconds, and Jeff Elam (LaTrobe, Pa.-Greater LaTrobe Senior) took sixth in 8.43 seconds.  Elam also competed in the 600m run, which was won by Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis.-Bradford) by less than half a second  in 1:21.03.

Four more individual events took place on the track.  In the 400m, Matthew Williams (Moreno Valley, Calif.-Vista Del Lago) was the top collegiate finisher in 49.60 seconds, but finished second behind unattached athlete David Washington by .23 seconds.  Caleb Hess (Owosso, Mich.-Owosso) was the top finisher for the Eagles in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:00.33 for sixth, followed by Tom Jozwiak (Southgate, Mich.-Thomas J. Anderson) in seventh.

In the mile run, Cameron Trinh (Oakland, Calif.-Skyline) paced Steve Hammond (Warsaw, Ohio-River View (Wingate)) in 4:23.20, while Hammond finished in 4:28.50.  The final distance event was the Kris Eggle Memorial 3000m, in which Abel Flores (Defiance, Ohio-Defiance) posted a time of 9:09.45.

The Eagles ended the meet with a victory, claiming the top time in the 4x400m relay in 3:18.12.   Elam, Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Farmington), Williams, and Waynes teamed up to win by a margin of over five seconds, capping off a successful day in Ann Arbor.

"Despite a heavy week of training, the guys put together a solid competitive effort for us to build on," noted Head Coach John Goodridge.  "We are looking forward to next weekend's scored six-way meet at Notre Dame."

Eastern will head to South Bend, Ind. next weekend to take part in the Notre Dame Invitational.  The meet will take place Saturday, Jan. 24, starting with the field events at 10 a.m. while the running events will kick off at noon.
