Getting to Know an Eagle: Bianca Rossi
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team will begin Mid-American Conference play after wrapping up non-conference action with a 4-2 victory over the University of Illinois-Chicago, Sept. 21. To get you excited for the start of the Eagles' MAC regular season title defense, senior Bianca Rossi (Mississauga, Ontario-St. Marcellinus) joins Eagle All-Access for another EMU soccer edition of "Getting to Know an Eagle."
Rossi has been an offensive threat in the EMU attack throughout her career, appearing in 60 games and starting 50 of them. With 19 career goals, the Mississauga, Ontario native currently ranks eighth in program history. Add in her 13 career assists, Rossi is seventh in EMU laurels with 51 points. To start her final season as an Eagle, the senior forward scored a crucial goal in EMU's draw against Oregon, Sept. 5, while also recording an assist in the team's latest victory, a 4-2 decision over Illinois-Chicago, Sept. 21.
Last season, Rossi started in 18 games, scoring six goals along with adding six assists. After recording two goals and two assists over one weekend, she was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week, Sept. 29, 2013, collecting eight points combined in wins over Indiana State and Toledo.
Rossi's breakout season came as a sophomore, when she was tabbed as an All-MAC First Team honoree. Rossi scored eight goals during the season, including a team-high four game-winners. Against Oakland, Aug. 19, 2012, she scored a pair of goals to become one of a select number of Eagles to put together a two-goal performance that year. The Eastern senior also went through a stretch in which she chalked up three-or-more points in four consecutive games.
As a freshman, Rossi was named to the conference's all-freshman team after finishing second on the team in points with nine. In her debut season donning the Green and White, she played in all 18 games and made nine starts throughout the year.
The Green and White will kick off MAC play with a unique weekend that features one game on the road and another at home. The start of the conference slate won't be easy as Eastern faces two teams that made the MAC Tournament semifinals in 2013. First, the Eagles soar into Oxford, Ohio for a battle of the birds, facing the Miami RedHawks on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. Following the MAC opener, EMU returns home for the first time in 35 days, playing host to the Ball State Cardinals. The Sunday afternoon contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., Sept. 28.
