Sophomore enters competition as second-ranked 400m junior in the world

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Three weeks after being crowned the Junior National champion in the 400m, Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field standout Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) will take to the track once more for the 2014 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships, July 22-26 in Eugene, Ore.

Brown could run a possible five events over six days of competition, split between the 400m dash and the 4x400m relay.  The sophomore enters the 400m as the highest-ranked American in the event and second in the world, behind only Trinidadian sprinter Machel Cedinio.  Cedinio took fifth at the 2012 IAAF Junior World Championships, crossing the line in 46.17 and has since cut his time to a season-best 45.23 seconds for 2014.

The sophomore will start off his slate on the opening day, running the preliminary heat of the 400m Tuesday, July 22 at 5:35 p.m. PDT.  With an advancement on to the semifinal round, he will compete again on Wednesday, July 23 at 6:45 p.m. PDT.  Should Brown run well enough to make the final round, he will take on the fastest juniors in the world on Thursday, July 24 at 7:45 p.m. PDT.  Following the 400m final, Brown will have Friday to rest before wrapping up competition as a member of the Team USA 4x400m relay lineup.  The semifinal round of the relay will take place Saturday, July 26 at 3:35 p.m., when it is possible that Team USA could put alternates in to run in their perennially formidable specialty.  If Brown takes Saturday to rest as well, he will appear in the championship heat of the 4x400m relay the following day, taking the track for the final time at 5 p.m. PDT on Sunday, July 27.

Events will be streamed via usatf.tv, while Universal Sports Network will broadcast the finals both online and on television.  Live results will be available through iaaf.org.  To watch Brown's victory at the USATF Junior Track and Field Championships on July 6, click here.
