Kremer Wins U.S. Amateur Qualifier to Advance to Championships

Kremer shot an impressive 69 on day two to claim the 2014 U.S. Amateur Qualifier crown and advance to the championships
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University men's golfer Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) advanced to the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga. after winning the U.S. Amateur qualifying tournament at the Oakland Hills Country Club, July 14.
After being tied with William Zalatoris of Plano, Texas, at the conclusion of the first round, Kremer came back on day two and shot an impressive 69 in the second round to capture the 2014 U.S. Amateur Qualifier at Oakland Hills Country Club. The Toronto, Ontario native carded a two round total of 141 (71-69) to finish just one stroke ahead of Zalatoris and Patrick Colburn of Traverse City, Mich.
In his freshman season donning the Green and White Kremer participated in 28 rounds, averaging a 76.46 per round. Kremer shot a season-best 217 (76-71-70) at the USF Invitational (March 2-4), finishing just one over par. The Toronto, Ontario native finished in the top 20 on one occasion, grabbing a 16th-place finish at the Rutherford Intercollegiate (April 19-20).
Kremer will now advance to play in the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championships at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga., Aug. 11-17.
First contested in 1895, the U.S. Amateur is the oldest golf championship in the country – one day older than the U.S. Open – and is for amateurs who have USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 2.4. Atlanta Athletic Club's Highlands Course will be set up at 7,490 yards and will play to a par of 35-36–71. The companion stroke-play qualifying course, Atlanta Athletic Club's Riverside Course will be set up at 7,381 yards and will play to a par of 72.
