Complete Schedule of Events

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
— Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team will send the largest group of athletes in over a decade to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 11-14, in Eugene, Ore.  After sending a substantial group of 13 student-athletes to the NCAA East Regional, May 29-31, seven Eagles earned their way to the national championship meet:  Max Babits (Howell, Mich.-Fowlerville), Cameron Bolton (Missouri City, Texas-Hightower), Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay), Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa.-Greater Latrobe Senior), Grzegorz Kalinowski (Torun, Poland-Nicolaus Copernicus University), Donald Scott (Apopka, Fla.-Apopka), and Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis.-Bradford).

Competing on the first day will be Babits in the pole vault.  Babits garnered All-American status at the NCAA Indoor Championships, March 14-15, and is the EMU record holder both in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.  The Howell, Mich. native was unable to compete in the 2014 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 15-17, due to illness, but bounced back at the regional meet to secure his ticket to Eugene with a fifth-place vault of 5.32 meters/17 feet 5.50-inches.  Babits cleared the height with ease, but was not required to vault any higher as the field for the NCAA Championships was determined at that height.  This Wednesday at 4 p.m. PDT, Babits will look to break his own record of 5.35 meters/17 feet 6.50-inches and earn All-American accolades to close out his career at Eastern.

Two events will take place on Thursday, June 12, beginning with the semifinal round of the 1500m run at 4:30 p.m. PDT.  Another senior will fight for his chance to end his years at EMU on a high note, as Kalinowski  will represent the Green and White in the middle-distance race.  Kalinowski holds the fourth-fastest time in EMU history at 3:41.80 and qualified for his first NCAA Championships appearance in 3:45.89, nabbing a spot out of a field so hotly-contested that the top-12 finishers crossed the line within three-quarters of a second of each other.  Should Kalinowski make the cut to the final heat, he will compete again at 2:18 p.m. PDT on Saturday, June 14.

The semifinal heat of the 4x400m relay will also take place on Thursday, beginning at 6:20 p.m.  The MAC Championship lineup of Bolton, Brown, Elam, and Waynes turned in the second-fastest time in EMU history at the NCAA East Regional to grab an automatic qualifying time in 3:05.93.  The only Eagle team to have run a faster time, consisting of Dazel Jules, Willie Jenkins, Chuck Wilson, and Carl Johnson, went on to take fourth at the 1988 NCAA Championships.  If the quartet advances to the final heat, it will compete at 3:47 p.m. PDT on Saturday.

Friday will be a day of rest and preparation for Saturday's competitors, as no events are schedule for the Green and White.  The final day will see the championship heats of the 1500m and 4x400m relay as well as the trials and finals for the triple jump.  At 12:30 p.m. PDT, EMU record holder and MAC champion Scott is set to go up against the nation's best triple jumpers, among which Scott ranks third with a career-best leap of 16.34 meters/53 feet 7.5-inches.  Scott secured the fifth seed at the NCAA East Regional with a jump of 16.01 meters/52 feet 6.50-inches, and is the only Eagle with NCAA Championships experience under his belt as the redshirt-junior earned a qualfiying spot in the 2012 campaign.

Results from the action at Hayward Field will be available through flashresults.com while ESPN3 will carry the live broadcast both on television and through WatchESPN.
