YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team has just two weeks before the 2014 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 15-17 in Athens, Ohio. In preparation for the hunt for a MAC title, the Eagles are slated to compete in the Billy Hayes Invitational, May 3, in Bloomington, Ind.
The Billy Hayes Invitational is named after legendary Hoosier coach Earl C. "Billy" Hayes, who was at the helm of the cross country and track and field programs from 1924 until his retirement in 1943. Hayes led the team to numerous Big Ten and NCAA titles, coaching four world record holders as well as seven Olympians. He is honored in the Indiana Hall of Fame, Drake Relays Hall of Fame, the USATF Hall of Fame, and is a special inductee of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Hall of Fame.
The Eagles will start the meet on the field with the hammer throw at 11 a.m., while track events will begin with preliminary heats for the 100m hurdles at 12:15 p.m. The day's events will end with the 4x400m relay, schedule for 6:30 p.m. Live results will be available at IUHoosiers.com.
