Murphy and Williams Tie for 11th at UNCW Seahawk Classic

WALLACE, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team wrapped up play at the UNCW Seahawk Classic Sunday, April 6, on the 6,131-yard, par-72 River Landing Golf Course. The Eagles carded a final round team score of 306 to finish the event in fifth place with a three-round total of 925 (306-313-306). Elon won the nine-team tournament with a score of 907 (297-306-304).
Junior Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School) and freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) each tied for 11th place in the 50 player field. Williams carded rounds of 76, 78 and 76 to equal her career-low for a 54-hole tournament, as she also notched a 230 (79-78-72) at the Hoosier Fall Invitational, Oct. 19-20, 2013. Meanwhile, Murphy's finish was her fourth career top-15 showing after posting marks of 71, 79 and 80 during the weekend. The tandem were the top finishing student-athletes from a Mid-American Conference institution, finishing two strokes ahead of Ball State's Jenna Hague.
Redshirt-sophomore Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) placed 16th overall with a score of 232 (78-80-74), while senior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) finished in 25th with a total of 236 (81-76-79). Redshirt-junior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) closed out the scoring for EMU, as she tied for 35th place overall with a score of 244 (81-86-77).
UNCW's Lori Beth Adams earned medalist honors with her 217 (74-71-72). On the team scoreboard, Elon (907) was followed by UNC Wilmington (915), Delaware (918), Old Dominion (920), Eastern Michigan (925), Ball State (936), Radford (945), Longwood (956) and Richmond (1005).
Eastern Michigan will travel to the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio, April 12-13.
