FISHERS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University redshirt-sophomore Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) fired an even-par 72 in the second round to surge into the lead with a 145 (73-72) at the 2014 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship. As a team, the Eagles remain in fourth-place after 36 holes of play on the par-72, 6,102 yard Hawthorns Golf and Country Club, compiling a team score of 616 (314-302) in the nine-team field.

Lee Ping opened her round on fire with birdies on No. 3, No. 4 and No. 12, but followed that with bogeys on No. 13, 16 and 18. Lee Ping, Ball State's Jenna Hague and Kent State's Jennifer Ha were the only players to record rounds of par-or-better on Saturday. The Brampton, Ontario native looks to become EMU's second individual champion as she holds a one stroke lead over Hague at two-over 146 (74-72).

The Eagles sits 21 strokes back of leader Kent State University (595) and will need a solid team effort on Sunday in order to unseat the defending conference champions. Toledo remains in second place with a 607 followed by Northern Illinois (614) and EMU. Akron (624), Ohio (627), Ball State (634), Western Michigan (636) and Bowling Green (636) complete the team standings.

Junior Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) who carded a round of 76 to reside in a tie for 11th-place with a 152 (76-76). Freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) improved her day two score by nine strokes for a 24th-place tie with a 159 (84-75). Senior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada -Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) is in 29th with an 160 (81-79 while redshirt-junior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) posed a 83 for a 167 (84-83) in 41st.

The third and final round of the 2014 MAC Women's Golf Championship will get underway at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 27, at 8 a.m. Following competition MAC Golfer, Freshman, Coach and Sportswomen of the Year, First and Second Team All-MAC and the All-Tournament team will be announced.
