YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis continued its winning ways Saturday, March 29, when it knocked off Bowling Green State University to remain perfect in Mid-American Conference play. The Eagles (11-6, 4-0 MAC) defeated the Falcons (6-6, 1-2 MAC) without dropping a match.
Eastern began play by taking the doubles point. The reigning MAC Doubles Team of the Week, Nino Mebuke and Klara Supejova took down Drew Fillis and Emily Reuland, 8-4, in the No. 1-doubles spot, while Diana Daviataia and Maria Paula Ribero earned an 8-3 victory at No. 2. Zsofia Biro and Mariya Toncheva defeated Hannah Drayton and Harley Hutchinson in a shutout, 8-0, to sweep the Falcons in doubles action.
In singles play, the Eagles took all six matches as well. Biro made it easy at the No. 6 spot, winning 6-3, 6-0 over Harley Hutchinson, while Supejova earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles versus Nikki Chiricosta. At No. 2, Davitaia continued the Eagles winning streak with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Emily Reuland. Daphne Friedrichs and Toncheva each pulled in another win at No. 5 and 4, respectively, while Mebuke was the only three-set finish, topping Katie Brozovich, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, at the No. 3 singles position.
"We played a complete match today," remarked Head Coach Ryan Ray. "This shows what we can do when everyone hits stride on the same day. We are off to a great start, we just need to stay focused and on task each and every week. I'm proud of the effort by the ladies this weekend, they played some exciting tennis."
EMU continues MAC play Saturday, April 5, when they travel to Toledo, Ohio to take on the University of Toledo Rockets. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at UT Varsity Courts.
