Junior crushes 25-year old EMU standard

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com)
—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team completed its final seven events of the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 8, at the University of Notre Dame.  The Eagles performed well, as four members of the Green and White set personal-bests in their respective events.

Most notably, Victoria Voronko (Stavropol, Russia-School #42) continued to make her way through the record books, this time burning up the mile run record, which had stood for 25 years by Donna Donakowski.  Voronko's time of 4:39.84 beat out Donakowski's mark of 4:41.44 by nearly two seconds, while shaving nearly six seconds off her previous personal-best set just one week ago at the EMU Quadrangular, Feb. 1.

Though not a personal record in the 200m dash, Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams) ran a 24.76 that would earn her a third-place finish in the race.  Her mark also qualified the sophomore for the 2014 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, Feb. 28-Mar. 1.

Junior sprinter Danielle Clark (Paramaribo, Suriname-Ewald P. Meyer Lyceum) set a personal standard in the 400m dash, clocking in at 57.20 to take 25th in the event.  Newcomer Agata Klimovich (Minsk, Belarus-Minsk School of Olympic Reserve) came away with a 1:01.86 mark in her first time donning the Green and White.

The 4x400m relay team of Clark, McKinney, Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif.-Adrian Wilcox) and Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind.-Pike) finished in 3:47.25 to take the eighth spot in the meet.

The Eagles will split up for the next weekend, as one group will stay in-state for the Grand Valley State University "Big Meet," while another will head to Geneva, Ohio for the SPIRE Invitational.  Both meets will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15.
