Senior Tiara Oates (Rochester, Mich.-Stoney Creek) led the way for the Green and White, notching the only first-place finish for the team. Oates set a personal-best in the long jump with a leap of 5.69 meters/18 feet 8.00-inches. Also earning a personal record on the field was Adrienne Waisner (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon), who eclipsed her previous mark in the weight throw by over one foot with a throw of 15.55 meters/50 feet 0.25-inches. Rookie Kristina Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Chartiers Valley) matched her career-high in the high jump after clearing 1.60 meters/5 feet 3.00-inches to grab fourth in the contest.
On the track, a pair of Eagles came away with runner-up finishes. Taylor Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Mott (Lansing C.C.)) placed second in the mile courtesy of a 5:03.18 finsh, and Tericka Threatt (Missouri City, Texas-Dulles) was the second athlete to cross the line in the 200m at 26.14. Threatt was followed by Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif.-Carson), who made her first collegiate appearance in the 200m with a 26.62 mark. Hurd also competed in the 60m hurdles for the first time in her EMU career, completing the race in 9.61 seconds.
The Green and White had one athlete compete in the 400m and 800m with Agata Klimovich (Minsk, Belarus-Minsk School of Olympic Reserve) and Rebecca Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) representing the team. Klimovich improved upon her time in the 400m, clocking in at 1:00.60 for a third-place finish. Quaintance also finished in the top-four of her event, finishing fourth in the 800m in 2:24.85.
The Eagles have less than one week before the start of the 2014 MAC Indoor Championships, Feb. 28-March 1 in Kent, Ohio. With a string of strong performances throughout the indoor season, Eastern looks to defend or improve upon the 2013 MAC Indoor Championship in which it claimed runner-up.
