Hodges Named MAC Swimmer of the Week

Sophomore earns accolade for first time in career
CLEVELAND,Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced Monday, Feb. 24, that Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving sophomore Chris Hodges (Lincolnshire, Ill.-Stevenson) has been named the MAC Swimmer of the Week, becoming the fifth Eagle to win the award during the 2013-14 campaign.
Hodges put on two performances this past weekend that rank as the fastest times for the team for the current season as well as put him in the top-five among conference rankings. The Lincolnshire, Ill. native swam in three total events in the Michigan First Chance Meet against competitors from No. 2 Michigan and No. 23 Purdue, Feb. 22-23. The sophomore clocked a time of 1:52.77 in the 200 IM, but his best performances came in the breaststroke events. Hodges's times of 56.54 in the 100 breast and 2:03.49 are the fastest marks put out by an Eagle this season and rank in the top-five in the MAC, according to collegeswimming.com.
Hodges grabs his first conference award of his career going into the 2014 MAC Championship. The Eagles will look to defend their 2013 championship title when they head to Buffalo, N.Y., March 6-8.
