GENEVA, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team wrapped up its trip to the SPIRE Academy, Feb. 15. The Eagles had a successful day in the Buckeye State, as a handful of the team set personal records or Mid-American Conference qualifying marks.
Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams) started the day off strong, as the sophomore qualified for the finals rounds of the 60m dash, crossing the finish line in 7.63 seconds in the preliminary round. McKinney kept her speed consistent, finishing the final heat in 7.65 for 10th in the event. Danielle Clark (Paramaribo, Suriname-Ewald P. Meyer Lyceum) finished the preliminary round in 7.85, and went on to take 16th in the 200m dash with a 25.18 mark.
Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind.-Pike) and Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif.-Adrian Wilcox) ran the 400m dash with close marks, as Yeadon ran a personal-best 57.34 while Hardiman followed up with a 57.55 finish.
The Green and White had solid marks in the mid-distance events, as Marina Manjon-Rivadulla (Barcelona, Spain-Escola University) finished the 800m in 2:13.74 and two personal records were set in the mile run. Taylor Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Mott (Lansing CC)) and Rebecca Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) notched career times as they clocked in at 5:01.77 and 5:15.96, respectively.
The fourth broken record of the season for the team came by way of Victoria Voronko (Stavropol, Russia-School #42)'s third-place finish in the 3000m run. Voronko broke her own record, set last year at the SPIRE Invitational on Feb. 9, 2013, by a margin of over 10 seconds, notching a 9:13.24 finish in the event.
The Eagles wrapped up action on the track with the 4x400m relay, fielded by the team of Clark, McKinney, Hardiman, and Yeadon. The quartet finished in 3:50.04 for a 13th-place finish.
A pair of identical marks came in the pole vault and the high jump for the Eagles, beginning with Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio-Pandora-Gilboa) and Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio-Fairmont). The duo cleared 3.68 meters/12 feet 0.75-inches in the pole vault. Following the vaulters, Kate Wolanin (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) and Sarah Chauchard (Montpellier, France-University of Montpellier) tied for fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.67 meters/5 feet 5.75-inches. Chauchard went on to lead the Eagles in the long jump, as she set a personal record with a distance of 5.75 meters/18 feet 10.50-inches for the sixth spot in the competition.
Completing the competition on the field, Makeda DeBardelaben (Saginaw, Mich.-Arthur Hill) represented the team in the triple jump, claiming 13th place with a leap of 11.45 meters/37 feet 6.75-inches.
The Eagles will not have to travel quite as far for their next form of competition, as a short trek to Ann Arbor is required of the squad for the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 22 at the University of Michigan.
