The Eagles have won five of their last six conference matches, improving to 16-11 (7-6 MAC), while the Rockets extended their losing streak to 15, falling to 1-25 (0-13 MAC).
Two Eagles notched double-doubles, as Jill Briner (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park and River Forest (Northeastern)) contributed 34 assists and 11 kills, while Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill.-Minooka Community) added 16 digs and 10 kills. Corynne Smith (Norwalk, Ohio-St. Paul) led the Green and White on defense with 12 of her season-high 26 digs coming in the fourth set. Devon Murray (Shelby, Ohio-Shelby) matched her season-best with 11 kills. Senior Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) had five of the Eagles' six service aces, while Katie Krasowski (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Marist) notched four block assists and two solo blocks. In addition, Alyssa Davis (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Plainwell) had a season-high 10 digs.
EMU opened the match by taking seven of the first nine points but a brief lapse in form saw the Rockets score four consecutive points, cutting the deficit to 7-6. However, the Green and White would quickly regain the momentum, scoring eight of the next 11 points to take a 15-9 lead, forcing a UT timeout. The timeout could not break the Eagles' run, as EMU scored four consecutive points to take a commanding 19-9 lead, forcing another UT timeout. After Toledo's head coach called the second timeout the Rockets took six of the next nine points to cut the deficit to seven. Toledo continued to claw their way back, taking seven of the next nine points, fighting off two set points in the process to cut the deficit to 24-22. The third set point was the charm for the Green and White, winning the opening set 25-22.
Again, the Eagles started quickly in set two, taking five of the opening six points in the second set. The Rockets responded by scoring three consecutive points to cut the deficit to 5-4. EMU responded in kind to take an 8-4 lead. With the Eagles ahead 13-9, the Rockets would rattle off five consecutive points to take their first lead of the match, 14-13. From there, UT scored four of the next six points to take an 18-15 lead. EMU's hopes of avoiding a fourth set were dashed, with the Rockets grabbed seven of the final nine points to take the second set, 25-17. Toledo registered their highest attacking percentage of the match in the second set, reaching .258.
With the score tied at 4-4 in the third set, the Eagles notched nine of the next 13 points to take a 13-8 lead. With the Eagles up 16-9, the Rockets gained some momentum coming within two of the Green and White, 18-16. However, that was as close as UT would get and two consecutive from the Eagles forced a second timeout from the Rockets. Eastern only allowed Toledo to notch four final points as EMU closed out the set with a 25-20 victory.
The fourth set was evenly matched with neither team leading by more than two until the Eagles took three consecutive points to take an 11-8 lead.
