Junior earns third weekly conference honor of his career
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)— The Mid-American Conference announced Monday, Nov. 10, that Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving standout Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston) has been named the MAC Swimmer of the Week following his performance in the Eagles' 153.5-144.5 victory over Oakland University, Nov. 8. The award marks the first honor of the season for the men's squad and is the third of Henry's career.
The Garner, N.C. native was a key factor in Saturday's win over the Golden Grizzlies. Henry won two individual events and also swam the third leg of the winning 400 free relay that clinched the win in a down-to-the-wire meet finale. He first won the 200 free in 1:38.83, a time that ranks atop MAC standings for the 2014-15 season and also sits in the top-50 among all NCAA Division I swimmers for the year, holding down the 41st spot. Henry went on to win the 100 free in 45.97 seconds, good for the fifth-fastest time in the MAC. With the meet on the line, the Eagles then edged out Oakland by .55 seconds in the 400 free relay to secure the victory. The relay team's time of 3:03.16 is also the second-best time in the MAC for the season and is the 34th-fastest time among Division I teams.
Henry and the rest of the Eagles will hit the water again Saturday Nov. 15 when both the men and women will play host to the University of Cincinnati. The meet is set to kick off at 1 p.m. inside Jones Natatorium, and live results will be available through EMUEagles.com.
