KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team wrapped up competition at the Palmetto Intercollegiate Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the par-72 Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. For the 54-hole event, the Eagles shot a cumulative total of 923 (302-306-315) for 13th-place, five strokes ahead of Elon University (304-311-313=928).
Winning the tournament by 12 strokes was Coastal Carolina University, which finished with a score of 866 (282-290-294). Individually, the Chanticleers' Lena Schaeffner took home top honors, finishing with a score of four-under par 212 (68-73-71). Overall, the tournament featured five teams ranked inside the top 50 in the nation.
For the Eagles, redshirt-senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) was the highest finisher, coming in tied for 33rd with a career-best score of 228 (70-73-85). Her opening round tally of 70 was also a collegiate-low for the native of the Netherlands as she sat in fourth place through two rounds.
Sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) followed with a 231 (79-73-79) in 46th, while freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) tied for 69th-place with a 236 (75-79-82). Rounding out the lineup, Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) and Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) fired rounds of 237 (78-81-78) and 242 (85-81-76), respectively.
The event wraps up the fall season for the Green and White, which now will focus on individual performances over the winter in preparation for the spring season, which begins Feb. 9-10 in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., with the MAC Match Play Tournament.
