Eastern Takes Third Straight with 3-0 Win at Akron

The Eagles have defeated three MAC opponents in a row
AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – After dropping three-straight matches, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team has turned things around and defeated three-straight Mid-American Conference East Division opponents. The Eagles (14-10, 5-5 MAC) ripped through the University of Akron (8-17, 2-8 MAC) Saturday, Oct. 25, in three sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-15).
Eastern's offense hit a stout .284 on the day, with Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill.-Minooka Community) leading the charge by totaling 12 kills. Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) recorded an outstanding .538 hitting percentage after tallying eight kills on 13 attempts with just one error. Katie Krasowski (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Marist) and Jill Briner (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park and River Forest (Northeastern)) added seven and six kills, respectively. Briner averaged 11.3 assists per frame in the Eagles' win by setting up 34 EMU kills. Perinar tied a season-high with three aces, while Samantha Falco (Antioch, Ill.-Antioch Community) notched a career-best four kills in the Green and White's victory.
On the defensive side of the net, Krasowski put forth a dominant effort, stuffing the Zips on five occasions, including three solo blocks. As a squad, the Green and White held Akron to a .115 hitting percentage, due in large part to the Eagles' eight blocks along with Corynne Smith (Norwalk, Ohio-St. Paul) picking up 21 digs, good for seven per set.
Eastern came out swinging in the first set of the night as Perinar racked up six kills and Crawshaw added four on the way to EMU's 25-15 first set win. As a squad, the Eagles hit .429, while holding Akron to a .194 clip. Briner setup 14 of the Green and White's 17 kills in the opening set, while Perinar and Alyssa Davis (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Plainwell) each served up an ace in the opening frame, while Smith picked up six digs to lead the back row and Perinar added five.
Despite falling a bit behind offensively, the Green and White put together an even stronger defensive effort in the second set. EMU held the Zips to a .000 hitting percentage, while adding three blocks and 19 digs as a squad. On the way to its 25-16 set win, Eastern hit .200, while Perinar notched five kills and Crawshaw put together a 3-1-6 set at the net. Smith continued her strong play on the defensive side of the net with seven digs.
The Eagles cruised to the 3-0 victory in set three when they topped the Zips, 25-15. EMU hit .216 as a team, while keeping UA at bay with a .152 attack percentage. Krasowski hit .571 in the set after recording four kills on seven attempts and Falco added three kills on five attempts with just one error. Smith picked up an outstanding eight-dig performance in the set as the Eagles won their third-straight match.
Eastern returns to the Convocation Center for a quick one-match stint Thursday, Oct. 30. The Green and White will play host to Central Michigan University at 7 p.m. as it tries to get revenge on CMU. The Chippewas took the Eagles' opening MAC match, 3-1, back on Sept. 25 at McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
