Junior claims third conference weekly honor of his career
CLEVELAND, Ohio(EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday, Oct. 21, that Eastern Michigan University's men's cross country captain Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio-Maumee) was named the MAC Runner of the Week after his race at the Indiana State University Pre-Nationals Invitational, Oct. 18. The award is the third of Fink's career as well as the third of the 2014 campaign, as he has been awarded the honor for every race in which he has competed.
Fink led the Green and White once more in his third meet of the season, taking another top-30 finish at the highly-competitive ISU Pre-Nationals Invitational. Fink finished the 8,000-meter course at 29th in 24:49.5 under cold and muddy conditions. The Eagles finished 12th out of 46 teams with 411 points in a field that included eight nationally-ranked programs. The Eagles were the top team from the MAC by a wide margin, followed by the University of Akron in 26th and Ohio University with a 40th-place finish. The entire group of frontrunners had immense talent, as 17 of the top-30 finishers appeared at last year's national championships, with eight earning All-American honors.
The Eagles will remain at home for the final meet of the regular season, hosting the EMU Fall Classic Friday, Oct. 24, at Hudson Mills Metro Park in Dexter, Mich. The women will race at 4 p.m., followed by the men's race at 4:30 p.m.
