Women's cross country will run in the Blue Race at the Notre Dame Invitational
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — After a successful outing at the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown, Sept. 26, Eastern Michigan University's women's cross country team is ready to race in another solid competition in South Bend, Ind. The Eagles will run in the Notre Dame Invitational Friday, Oct. 3, with an appearance in the seeded Women's Blue Race.
The Eagles have seen tremendous improvement during the 2014-15 campaign, led by the trio of Victoria Voronko, Jordann McDermitt, and Sofie Gallein. With Voronko leading the pack, the team has picked up a win and a runner-up finish during the beginning of the 2014-15 campaign along with an 11th-place finish at the national-level Battle in Beantown. Voronko's efforts have not gone unnoticed, as the senior Eagle has picked up the Mid-American Conference Runner of the Week accolade for all three of her performances.
The field at this weekend's race should prove to be similar to last week's competition in Jamaica Plain, as 23 of the 24 programs slated to run are ranked in their respective regions. Along with highly-touted regional teams, the Blue Race will also feature three nationally-ranked teams in No. 12 New Mexico, No. 29 Butler, and No. 30 Penn State. Also appearing in the field will be two familiar foes, as MAC opponents Central Michigan University and the University of Toledo will be making the trip to South Bend.
A few members of the Green and White will kick off competition prior to the Blue Race at 3:30 p.m. with the 5,000-meter Open Race. The Women's Blue Race will take place shortly after the Open Race, as the gun will go off to start the 5,000-meter run at 4:15 p.m.
