Varsity 8+ Squad Earns Fourth-Place Finish at Head of the Grand

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University rowing squad completed its second race of the fall season Sunday, Oct. 12 at the Head of the Grand in East Lansing, Mich.
The Eagles raced six boats in the event with their best finish coming from the Varsity 8+ squad placing fourth overall. The Varsity 8+ boat, that held Ashley Gilmore, Krista Burdick, Lindsay Davis-Brady, Christine Grilliot, Sidney Doss, Emily Kent, Caitlyn Maguire, Tijana Milovanovic and coxswain Tauan Jeffrey, crossed the line at 12:56.27 behind two Michigan State boats and the Grand Valley A squad.
The Green and White placed three boats in the water for the Varsity 4+ race with its best finish coming from the Varsity 4+ A team. The A team placed sixth overall with a time of 14:13.60, while the B team came in right behind for a seventh-place finish, crossing the line at 14:18.70. EMU's final boat came in ninth overall with a time of 14:37.20.
Both the Novice 8+ and 4+ boats saw the water for the first time of the 2014-15 campaign as the 8+ team finished in a time of 17:32.00, while the 4+ squad crossed the line at 18:18.57.
"The Head of the Grand was another step to close the gap," said Head Coach Kemp Savage, "Our walk-on novice got their first race after only rowing for 10 days and the varsity applied all the technical changes we have been making to keep working to the CAA Championship goals."
The Eagles will take a two-week break before heading to Chattanooga, Tenn. for the Head of the Hooch, Nov. 1-2.
