Rowing Set for Head of the Grand

The Eagles will travel to East Lansing, Mich. for their only in-state fall regatta of the 2014 campaign
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University rowing squad will take the short jaunt to East Lansing, Mich. for its only in-state regatta of the fall season Sunday, Oct. 12, when it competes in the Head of the Grand for the second consecutive season.
The race will mark the third time in EMU rowing history that the Eagles have competed in the event with their best showing coming in the 2013 campaign. The Novice 8+ team picked up a win for the Eagles, while the Varsity 8 A team placed fourth and the Varsity 8 B squad placed seventh overall.
The Eagles kick off the day with a Novice 4+ race at 9:20 a.m. EMU will take on boats from Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, and Toledo. Last season, the Novice 4+ boat clinched a fourth-place finish as it crossed the line at 12:57.45. The Head of the Grand will mark the first race for the Novice 4 team in the 2014-15 season.
The Green and White Varsity 8 squad earned a fourth-place finish last season, crossing the line behind three Michigan State boats with a time of 10:45.25. This year, the Eagles will race two boats in the Varsity 8+ race and will take on teams from Michigan State, Michigan Tech, and Northern Michigan. The race is set to start a 10:40 a.m. at Grand River Park.
After winning the Novice 8+ race one year ago, EMU will look to repeat last season's success this year as it will take on three teams from Michigan State at 11:40 a.m. Last season, the Eagles posted a time of 11:14.00 to beat out MSU by just one second and capture the crown.
EMU ends its day in East Lansing with the Varsity 4+ race which is set to start at noon. The Eagles will go up against Michgian State, Michigan Tech, and Northern Michigan. Michigan State and Northern Michigan will both enter multiple boats in the event, while EMU and Michigan Tech will each have one boat apiece.

Following this weekend's regatta, the Eagles will take a two-week break before heading to Chattanooga, Tenn. for the Head of the Hooch, Nov. 1-2.
