Andrew Henry Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

Henry becomes the fourth Eagle to win the award during the 2013-14 academic year

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University swimmer Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston) was named Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending, Jan. 5, the conference announced Thursday evening, Jan. 9. Henry, an All-MAC First Team honoree from a season ago, earns the accolade for the first time in his career. He is the fourth Eagle to win the award in the 2013-14 academic year.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.

Henry was the first to touch among the competitors in the 200 free in a time of 1:42.88 at the Florida International University Invitational, Jan. 5. Henry also placed fifth in the 100-yard Individual Medley with a mark of 52.93. He then finished sixth in the 50-yard Backstroke (25.65) and ninth in the 50-yard Butterfly (24.03). He was also part of the 200-yard Freestyle Relay team which finished fifth. Overall, EMU finished in third place at the invitational.

Henry and the rest of the Eagles return to the pool Friday, Jan. 10, traveling to Granville, Ohio to compete against Denison University. The afternoon's dual is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
