YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The streaking Eastern Michigan University volleyball team continued to impress Tuesday, Sept. 17, as it knocked off IPFW in straight sets at the Convocation Center. The Eagles (8-4) have not dropped a set since they fell in a 3-1 decision against the University of Iowa, Sept. 7. Over that span, EMU has topped Oakland University, Bryant University, Holy Cross University, Brown University and the Mastodons (6-6) of IPFW. The Green and White cruised to a three-set victory, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-16.

Offensively, Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill.-Minooka Community) led Eastern with 10 kills and a .692 hitting percentage, making just one error in 13 attack attempts. Perinar's .692 attack percentage was the second best in Convocation Center history. Overall, the Eagles hit .270 (37-10-100). Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) was next in line on the offensive, totaling eight kills, while Kelsey Jones (Reed City, Mich.-Reed City) notched a .308 hitting percentage. The Reed City, Mich. native accumulated six kills in 13 attempt, making just two errors. Jill Briner (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park and River Forest (Northeastern)) did the majority of the setting duties, picking up 16 assists, while Alyssa Davis (Kalamzoo, Mich.-Plainwell) added nine of her own. Natalie Folk (Saline, Mich.-Saline) posted a pair service aces..

On the defensive side of the net, the Eagles totaled nine team blocks with Jones notching seven block, including one solo and six block assists. Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) and Roback each notched three block assists in the win, while Roback also added 10 digs for a team-high.

The Green and White took the first point of the match and never did not look back, keeping the lead throughout the opening frame topping IPFW, 25-21. EMU capitalized on a poor offensive output from the Mastodons holfing IPFW to just an .093 (15-11-43) attack percentage, while posting a .189 (11-4-37) percentage of their own. Perinar posted four of her 10 total kills in the opening set, while notching her three kills of the match and six of 16 assists to nab a quick one set lead over the visiting team.

Again in the second set, Eastern Michigan owned the first point of the frame. The Eagles never lost the lead throughout the set en route to a 25-20 decision. EMU took its two set lead after posting a .345 team attack percentage, accumulating 15 kills in 29 attempts, with just five errors. Roback led the way in the set with four of her eight kills in seven tries. The Eagles were strong defensively as they totaled four blocks with four of the EMU student-athletes posting blocks, while keeping the Mastodons to just a .136 (9-6-22) attack percentage.

Eastern swept the match after gliding to a 25-16 third set win. In another dominant performance, the Eagles won the first point of the frame and never had to play from behind through the remainder of the match. Perinar added another four kills to her total without making an error in five tries, good for an .800 hitting percentage. The Eagles had another four team blocks, with Jones earning two of those on her own, including one solo block. Eastern hit .294 (11-1-34) with just one attack error in the frame and kept the IPFW offense at bay, as the Mastodons could only muster a .156 (14-7-45) attack percentage.

The Green and White hit the hardwood again Friday, Sept. 20, when they travel to East Lansing, Mich. for the 2013 Spartan Invitational hosted by the No.14-ranked Spartans of Michigan State University. The Eagles will open the tournament by taking on the host school at 7 p.m. Friday evening. EMU is scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday, Sept. 21, when it squares off with the University of Cincinnati at 10 a.m. before meeting Duquesne University for a 5 p.m. tilt at Jenison Field House.
