EMU is tops in the Mid-American Conference and 65th nationally

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team has the top recruiting class in the Mid-American Conference and the 65th-best class in the nation, according to the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. Olson and the site provide one of the top sources for women's basketball recruiting in the nation.

"We are honored for Eastern Michigan to be the headliner for the Mid-American Conference," Head Coach Tory Verdi said. "Dan Olsen is one of the most respected women's basketball talent evaluators in the nation. Our staff did a tremendous job in working the recruiting trails to land this No. 1-ranked class. I am eager to get them in an Eagles uniform this season and cannot wait to show what they can do for our fans."

The Eagles have a strong class of six incoming student-athletes – Sashana Bucknor (New Haven, Conn.-Weaver-ASA College), Ajai Meeks (Detroit, Mich.-Pershing-Providence-Schoolcraft), Haley Moore (Milford, Neb.-Milford), Janay Morton (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Osseo), Cha'Ron Sweeney (Toledo, Ohio-Rogers) and Phillis Webb (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Osseo). Additionally, Shannise Heady (Hazel Crest, Ill.-Hillcrest), who transferred from Seton Hall University, will become eligible to play following the 2013 fall semester.

EMU was the lone MAC institution represented inside Olsen's top 90 ranked teams, and is three positions ahead of eight-time NCAA Division I National Champion, the University of Connecticut, which was tied for No. 68.
