EMU men's track and field sits in a tie for second place with 14 points

AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships began Thursday, May 9, on the campus of the University of Akron. With day one in the books, the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team sits in a tie for second place with 14 points. Kent State University finds itself at the top of the standings with 24 points.
Only two events were completed on the men's side during the first day of competition. Distance runners Terefe Ejigu and Warren Witchell grabbed the 14 points for Eastern in the 10,000-meter run. Ejigu took runner-up with a time of 30:58.72 while Witchell placed third, crossing the finish line in 31:12.77. Teammate Cameron Trinh finished in 12th place.
Freshman Julius Collier threw the javelin 152-feet 8-inches (46.53 meters), ending the event in 10th place.
Halfway through the decathlon, EMU sophomore Solomon Ijah leads the pack with 3,939 points. Ijah won the shot put with a toss of 47-feet 6.25-inches (14.48 meters), while finishing runner-up in the 100-meter dash and the long jump. Fellow Eagle Levi Selvig stands in 11th after five events.
Day two of the MAC Outdoor Championships begins tomorrow, May 10, at 10 a.m. with the hammer throw at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.
