Women's Rowing Looking Towards CAA Championship

EMU competing for a league title for the first time in 2013

More Information.

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University rowing team will be one of six teams vying for the title at the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rowing Championship. In its first season as a member of the CAA, the Eagles will compete Sunday, May 19, at Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Va.

The championship begins with the Varsity 4 race at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Second Varsity 8 race at 9:45 a.m. The Varsity 8 competition follows at 10:05 a.m., with an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the event. There is no admission charge to the championship, but all vehicles must pay a $10 parking fee upon entrance to the park.

Previously, Eastern Michigan was independent in women's rowing since the program began in the fall of 2001, competing as an independent with a full NCAA defined team of a first eight, second eight and varsity four. That all changed Oct. 11, 2012, when the CAA announced that the Eagles have been added to the league as an affiliate member of the conference.

Last year, Northeastern captured the CAA team title for the third time in four years as the Huskies took first place in the Second Varsity Eights and Varsity Eights races and was fourth in the Varsity Fours to collect 39 points. Boston University was second with 34 points followed by Buffalo (30), Drexel (22), Old Dominion (21), Delaware (15), and George Mason (7).

Stay tuned to EMUEagles.com and CAASports.com for results from the races.
