Men’s track and field makes the trip to Knoxville, Tenn. for three-day meet

Meet Schedule

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
–  The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team will head south in hopes of warmer weather as it participates in the Sea Ray Relays, hosted by the University of Tennessee, April 11-13. EMU will trek down to Knoxville, Tenn. for the first time since participating in the Sea Ray Relays, April 9-10, 2010. The meet will take place on the historic Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium, site of the 1995 NCAA Championships as well as numerous USA Track and Field championships.

“We are certainly hoping for better weather conditions than we have experienced the past two weekends,”  commented EMU Head Coach John Goodridge. “The Sea Ray Relays will provide very challenging competition in every event which provides us a good opportunity to evaluate our current preparation. “

The men's portion of the meet kicks off Thursday, April 11, with the hammer throw at 6:30 p.m. The action continues Friday, April 12 at 12:15 p.m., with the men's open discus. The majority of the running and field events will take place throughout the day. On the meet's final day, April 13, the Sea Ray Showcase will take place as seven races will feature the meet's top runners. Select field events and eight relays will conclude competition, with the finale being the men's 4x400-meter relay scheduled to begin at 4:40 p.m.

With “relays” in the meet title, the Eagles certainly know a thing or two about competing well in those types of races; there is no need to look any further than the performances at last week's Spartan Invitational, April 6. The Eagles swept the relays in East Lansing, starting with the team of Chris Scott, Cameron Bolton, Matthew Williams and Jay Saunders which took the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 42.28. Meanwhile in the 4x400-meter relay, Darrell Butler, Scott, Tyler Ross and Jeff Elam crossed the finish line in 3:21.10 to claim victory.
