Coates, Everson, Ivry, Johnson, Moore and Saunders each earned the academic honor

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team had six members earn Academic All-Mid-American Conference team nods today, April 16, as voted by the faculty athletic representatives from the member MAC institutions.

A total of 18 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-MAC team with Eastern leading the way.  Tom Coates, Gus Everson, Oded Ivry, Dakoda Johnson, Brian Moore and Andrew Saunders each earned the academic honor.

Moore and Saunders each were All-MAC award winners at the 2013 MAC Championships in Carbondale, Ill. Moore earned first team honors after taking the 200-freestyle, while Saunders was named to the second team for his efforts on the diving boards. Ivry and Moore were each members of the 800-freestyle relay team that took second at the MAC Championships. Everson was the anchor of the third place finishing 200-freestyle relay team, while also finishing in the top-eight in multiple races at the MAC Championships. Johnson finished sixth in the three-meter dive and 11th in the one-meter at the MAC Championships, while Coates' best finish was when he took fourth in the 200-butterfly at the MAC meet.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics.  To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.  First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season are only considered.
