EMU Drops Game One at Nothern Illinois, 6-3

The Eagles outhit NIU but fell on the road
DEKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped its first game of a two-game set at Northern Illinois University Saturday, April 13. The Eagles (10-24-1; 1-8 MAC) fell 6-3, despite out-hitting the Huskies, 8-5.
Katy Blaharski (Carleton, Mich.-Airport) led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Courtney Nicholson (Navarre, Ohio-Canton Central Catholic) went 2-for-3 with a double.
Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell) made the start for EMU going 5.2 innings. Wells (0-14) was touched for six runs on five hits, while walking five and striking out four. Lindsay Rich (Perrysburg, Ohio-Perrysburg) tossed the final 0.1 innings.
Blaharski singled up the middle in the first and later scored on a sacrifice fly to give EMU a 1-0 lead early. The Eagles added to their lead in the third to get up 2-0. Blaharski hit a single to score Aoife Duffy (Powell, Ohio-Olentangy Liberty).
The Huskies evened up in the bottom half of the when they hit a two-run double in the third.
Eastern took the lead again in the fourth. Courtney Loe (Temperance, Mich.-Bedford (West Liberty)) led off the inning with a single. Wells moved Loe up to second with a sacrifice bunt and later scored on a NIU error to take a 3-2 lead.
The Huskies scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to get up, 6-3, and take the first of the two game series. The Eagles will finish the series Sunday, April 14, when they complete a two-game set with the Huskies at 1 p.m. (CT).
