Wisconsin Drops EMU for Second Straight Time, 9-0

The Eagles could only muster four hits in the loss
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped its third-straight contest Saturday, March 16, at the 2013 Louisville Softball Classic. The Eagles (8-11) fell, 9-0, in five innings to the University of Wisconsin at Ulmer Stadium.
Eastern managed just four hits, two came off of the bat of Abby Davidson (Westerville, Ohio-Olentangy Orange), while seniors Katy Blaharski (Carleton, Mich.-Airport) and Courtney Nicholson (Navarre, Ohio-Canton Central Catholic) each slapped a base hit.
Jenna Ignowski (Niles, Mich.-Niles) got the start for EMU and tossed the first 2.1 innings. Ignowski (4-3) allowed eight runs on 10 hits, while striking out four. Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell) went the final 2.2 innings of work. She surrendered just one run on three hits. Taylor-Paige Stewart went a complete game for the Badgers, picking up the win after allowing just four hits and setting down three on strikes.
Wisconsin opened the scoring in the second by putting up a six-spot. The Badgers used seven hits and a an EMU error to take a quick 6-0 lead. Wisconsin added two more in the third to get up 8-0 on three hits and added their final run in the fifth on three hits to manage the final 9-0 tally and run-rule the Eagles.
Eastern takes on the No. 24-ranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels this evening, March 16, at 5:30 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium. It will be the final contest of the Louisville Softball Classic for EMU.
