PINEHURST, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) -- Two Eastern Michigan University golfers sit among the tournament's top-five scorers after the first round at the Golf Pride Pinehurst Intercollegiate Sunday, March 10. As a team, the Eagles are tied with Xavier University for ninth place following an opening round 299.
Senior Spencer Slade (Saline, Mich.-Saline-Savannah State) and freshman Stuart Grehan (Tullamore, Ireland-Colaiste Choilm) each turned in one-under par 70 to place in a tie for fourth place after 18 holes.
Sunday's round was played on the par-71, 6,832-yard layout at Pinehurst No. 6, and the action for Monday's second round will shift to the famed No. 2 course.
EMU is 19 shots back of tournament leader Old Dominion (286), while Villanova and VCU are tied for second at seven-over 291 and UNCG is fourth at eight-over 292. Marshall's Nathan Kerns leads the tournament after a round of 68, followed by UNCG's Taylor Coalson and VCU's Jake McNulty in second with rounds of 69.
The tournament continues with 18 holes Monday, March 11, on Pinehurst No. 2 and then returns to the No. 6 course for the final 18 holes Tuesday, March 12. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
